Two survivors were there on the day of our visit, sharing their stories. One was a mechanic who was able to repair typewriters and the other an artist, whose talents were called on for propaganda. Today, the artist runs the survivors foundation and paint portraits of the awful things that took place so the world cannot forget. Their tail basically functions as an extra limb. The control and flexibility of the tail end facilitates swinging from tree to tree and hanging from branches to reach for the best fruits. These monkeys here will end up in the jungles of Tortuguero when they’re ready to be released.
